Here are some things to keep in mind this summer! Ventilate/Cool hives Important because: Excess heat can stress bees and brood, suppress the queen's egg production, and make a hive more likely to swarm. Hives that are too hot and humid may be more prone to pests and diseases. The harder bees work to cool the brood chamber, the fewer resources they have for other tasks. Good air flow helps the bees cure honey. How to do it: Use screened bottom boards (also helpful for Varroa control and, some say, Nosema control.)
